Caterina’s story, the woman who shaped our future

March, the month of women: our tribute to Caterina

March is the month dedicated to the celebration of women and their determination.
For us, the 8th of March is not only a symbolic occasion, but an opportunity to reflect on the contributions that women gave, and continue to give, to our company.
Among them, one figure in particular has played a decisive role throughout our history: Caterina.

The woman who showed courage in a male-dominated world

Osvaldo, the second generation leading the company, had a son, Napoleone. After fighting in the Second World War and spending seven years as a prisoner of war, Napoleone returned home, married Caterina and began working as a customs officer.
Osvaldo quickly recognized the determination of his young daughter-in-law and decided to entrust her with the management of the business.
Thus, in an era where the presence of women in the largely male entrepreneurial world was far from common or expected, Caterina became the third generation of the Alberti family.
Her vision, courage and spirit of sacrifice contributed in a concrete way to the growth of the company.

Innovation rooted in tradition

In the years that followed, she introduced significant improvements and supported the company throughout some of its most crucial moments, demonstrating great practicality and a very innovative mindset.
In San Daniele, she was among the first to reshape the traditional osteria into a place dedicated exclusively to the prosciutto tasting.
This move led to a concept that is central to us today: enhancing the product in its purest form. Caterina understood that prosciutto was not only a food product, but an expression of our territory’s culture.
In no time, the osteria became a central point and a reference for the people living in San Daniele and for prosciutto lovers from all over the world.

The determination to look toward the future

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the devastating earthquake that struck Friuli on the 6th May of1976, causing severe damages to our facilities as well.
Once again, Caterina managed to turn the difficulties into opportunities. She did not allow uncertainty to stop her and immediately started the reconstruction work while keeping the osteria open to customers at all times. Continuing to work meant being able to independently support the costs necessary for recovery.
Her determination and her commitment laid the solid foundations for the company’s future. The values that guided her, tradition, roots in the territory, quality, and attention to people, still define our identity today.
