A tale rooted in territory

120 years of San Daniele, tradition and values that stand the test of time

Some stories deserve to be told out loud, yet quietly live in daily life small gestures.
Ours began 120 years ago, when Osvaldo Alberti decided to move the family business from Fagagna to San Daniele del Friuli. This choice was driven by a clear strategy: here, commercial exchanges were better organized. Moreover, the territory offered the ideal conditions to nurture a dream that still lives today.

120 years of San Daniele

Once upon a time, San Daniele was a quiet city where the seasons followed a slow rhythm. 120 years of history is a very long period of time, during which we have witnessed various changes, some strongly desired and pursued, others dictated by our world’s constant evolution.One thing that however, has never changed, is the air: even back then, it was the same as it is today, still the most precious ingredient for our prosciutto.
For this reason, throughout the years, we wanted our production to stay in the exact same place where it was born: the upper part of the San Daniele hill, where the wind blows steady and the windows can stay open.
The smell of aging prosciutto accompanied our days, meanwhile, our skills were refined and passed down with care and dedication from one generation to another.

Tradition and values that withstand time

The values that still guide us today began to take shape over the years, they are:

  • Expertise consolidated over 5 generations;
  • Family bond, the beating heart of the company;
  • Knowledge of raw materials, in full respect of the territory;
  • Patience, an essential element for the prosciutto aging process.

Tradition and innovation are often thought of as opposites, but for us, they never have been: preserving tradition means understanding it deeply. Innovating means improving it, protecting it, and making it strong over time, without ever losing its identity.
Our guiding principle has always been the same: quality is not a negotiable aspect.

Looking at the future: e-commerce and expanding our Osteria

Today, even if technology has evolved and consumer habits have changed, by stepping into our Osteria, the same attention, passion and care is conveyed to our clients. This happens because we have chosen to innovate without ever betraying the knowledge of those who have practiced this craft for 120 years.
The result is a prosciutto that, today as in the past, tells the story of our territory, climate, time, and mostly of the people who have accompanied it along its journey.

To bring our product closer to our loyal customers, we have developed a dedicated e-commerce site, thanks to which we deliver the authentic taste of San Daniele Prosciutto directly to your house.

But our idea of innovation goes beyond digital: the number of guests that visit our Osteria grow year after year, proving that the experience of enjoying prosciutto on site remains irreplaceable. For this reason, one of our most important future projects is to expand the spaces and therefore the booking availability, so as to welcome everyone and offer an unforgettable experience.

A promise for future generations

Our prosciutto narrates the story of our territory, the climate, the time, and the people who have accompanied it along its journey.
120 years is not just an anniversary: it’s a milestone made of consistency, choices, and trust built over time. But it’s also a promise to continue working with respect, expertise, and passion, carrying forward our history and the values that make it unique, without ever ceasing to look ahead.

To celebrate this journey, in 2022 the Italian Ministry of Economic Development included us in the Register of Historic Trademarks of National Interest – Registro dei Marchi Storici di Interesse Nazionale recognizing our role as promoters of the culture of excellence and Friulian tradition.

The following year, in 2023, we were also registered in the Registro delle Imprese Storiche Italiane – Italian Historic Companies Register by Unioncamere, a prestigious recognition reserved for businesses that have operated for over 100 years continuously in the same sector.

These are not just certificates, they are a representation of the appreciation of our work and an encouragement to continue along the same path.

Ad maiora: together, toward new moments of taste, conviviality, and passion that continue to write this wonderful Italian story!

When it comes to wine and San Daniele ham, there is often some confusion. Traditionally, aged meats are paired with red wine, but its structure and tannins can be too overpowering for such a delicate product as our ham, risking to mask its natural sweetness.
